Shell Deepwater Virtual Reality Experience

Shell, the title sponsor of the New Orleans Jazz Fest, wanted to bring a completely new experience to attendees visiting their exhibit. With the Shell Deepwater Virtual Reality Experience, we flipped that on its head and brought attendees to an offshore world they had never seen before. The full 3D 360-degree Samsung Gear VR experience flew visitors on a helicopter out to a working rig, and then dropped them miles below the ocean surface to explore a sub sea field.

The three minute and thirty second completely immersive video allowed visitors to experience Shell's work in the nearby Gulf in a whole new light.

Left, right. Left, right. The stereoscopic movie played seamlessly in the Samsung Gear VR. Here viewers are approaching Shell's newest Deepwater offshore rig, the Olympus.

What lies beneath? A fully-functioning sub sea oil field. Viewers navigate around autonomous submersibles, pumps and regulators to catch a glimpse of an otherwise hidden world.

Yes, that's a whale swimming by in 3D.

A custom, branded app housed the experience on the VR headset.
